Our client, a premier Destination Management Company (DMC) in Kenya, offering authentic safari and travel experiences across East Africa, is seeking a driven and sales oriented General Manager, for its office in Nairobi.
The company is on an ambitious growth path focusing on international partnerships, digital transformation, and exceptional service delivery. The successful candidate will lead the strategic, commercial, and operational direction of the DMC. The ideal candidate must be an experienced leader with deep knowledge of the safari industry, strong international contracting experience, and exceptional negotiation skills to secure the best deals from local hotels and tourism suppliers. He or she must also be digitally savvy and able to leverage online platforms for business growth.
Key Responsibilities.
- Develop and execute a strategic business plan aligned with the company’s growth objectives.
- Lead local and international contracting with hotels, lodges, and tour operators, ensuring the best possible rates and value additions.
- Use advanced negotiation tactics to maximize profitability and build strong supplier relationships.
- Oversee marketing, sales, and digital strategies to enhance visibility and drive online bookings.
- Expand international client networks through partnerships, expos, and trade fairs.
- Ensure operational excellence in reservations, logistics, and customer experience.
- Lead and mentor staff to create a high-performance culture focused on service and results.
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial performance while optimizing cost efficiency.
- Represent the company in trade fairs and stakeholder engagements locally and internationally.
Key Requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 8–10 years of experience in the safari, DMC, or hospitality industry, with 4+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong negotiation and contracting experience with local hotels and international operators.
- Proven track record in digital marketing, online travel platforms, and CRM systems.
- Strong financial, operational, and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities.
- Visionary leader with a results-driven mindset.
- Exceptional negotiator with strong business instincts.
- Tech-savvy and comfortable with digital transformation.
- Excellent communicator and relationship builder.
