
Our client is seeking an experienced and technically strong BioMed Lead to oversee the biomedical engineering function within the Tenwek Hospital Cardiothoracic Centre.
The role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure medical equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, compliant with safety standards, and fully reliable to support high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will combine advanced technical skill with strong leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to patient safety.
Key Responsibilities.
- Lead and supervise the biomedical engineering team, ensuring performance, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans and equipment lifecycle management strategies
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards for biomedical equipment
- Oversee installation, calibration, repair, and maintenance of all medical equipment and medical gas systems
- Monitor uptime and performance of critical equipment and resolve faults promptly
- Maintain accurate equipment inventory, service records, and performance documentation
- Collaborate with clinical departments to assess technical needs and provide equipment support
- Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, warranties, and procurement of biomedical equipment and spare parts
- Train biomedical staff and clinical users on the safe and effective use of equipment
- Conduct equipment safety audits, risk assessments, and support quality assurance initiatives
Key Requirements.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field
- Membership in AMEK (desired); registration with EBK or IEK is an advantage
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in biomedical engineering, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role
- Experience in a cardiac or specialized healthcare facility is an added advantage
- Proficiency in MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD
- Advanced troubleshooting and maintenance skills across diverse medical equipment
- Strong understanding of medical gas systems and HVAC–equipment integration
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and equipment specifications
